On July 11, the movie studio will partner up with a number of environmental organizations and local parks departments in eight North American coastal cities for a huge, family-friendly beach clean up event, Warner Bros. announced this week in a press release.
From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday - the day before Guillermo Del Toro's sci-fi action adventure is set to open in cinemas - Vancouverites are encouraged to hit up Kitsilano Beach on the city's west side for the massive clean up. The first 100 participants will receive two tickets to see the film over the opening weekend, plus a "Pacific Rim" t-shirt made of recycled materials, and a free breakfast.
The movie, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Charlie Day, was recently proclaimed by Kanye West via Twitter as "easily one of my favourite movies of all time."
I saw a pre-screening of Pacific Rim yesterday and it's easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

The movie pits 25-storey high monsters (Kaiju) that have emerged from the sea against equally enormous robots called Jaegers, that are controlled by two brain-connected pilots.
"I wanted to bring the awe and spectacle of when you watch something so big that the scale is inhuman," says the movie's director, Del Toro.
Other beaches taking part in Thursday's event are located in Hawaii, California and Seattle.
